Handmade Wounaan Artisan Baskets

from 75.00

These baskets are works of art created by the Wounaan Indians of Panama. The style and design are fashioned by the female artisans living in Darien, on the border of Columbia. Made from a combination of Chunga (black palm) and Navala (Panama hat fiber), each basket could take up to eighteen months depending on the complexity of the basket.  The Wounaan baskets are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian and Field Museums.
